What do I need during a photo shoot? What is possible and what is not? Do I look fat wearing these clothes? Does that suit my hair color? Do not you have some useful clothing tips? These are all questions that I receive from my customers on a regular basis.
As far as clothing is concerned, it produces stress for the one last minute and for the other the fun starts.
But are there really good or bad clothing choices? But if I can not give some tips, I can only say yes. Hence this blog post. Of course, it is super cool to do a photo shoot at Pieter Photography but it is also very useful to think beforehand what you would like to show and radiate who you are. Of course, we can discuss this together during a consultation but you may also have some ideas about this. It does not matter whether it is portrait photos, family and or friends pictures are there are a number of things that you should definitely take into account.
1 - At number one I have the following. Whatever you attract, make sure it's nice. That you feel comfortable in it. Because of whatever the brand is or what the trend is at the moment. If you do not feel comfortable in it, you will radiate it during the photo shoot.
2 - Now you have to think about what these pictures are meant for. What you think what the photo, but especially you must radiate. Is it for personal use, social media or very business. For example, do the photos have to be timeless because that is all very much your choice of clothing.
3 - Do not forget where the photo session will take place. This can also have an effect. A photo session with me in the studio will give a different look than a photo shoot on location. But the location is also of influence. In a park or forest will be different than in the office or a rustic environment. So keep this in mind with your clothing choice.
4 - It is always wise not to combine too many colors. Keep it simple. The best starting point is to wear one or two different colors. Preferably not too fierce (unless of course, you want to). You can then combine the colors with white, black or gray. But is not really necessary. What you also have to take into account is to prefer not to wear clothing with too busy patterns such as stripes, booths or balls. Try to avoid busy prints or large logos as much as possible. After all, it's all about you and not about clothing.
5 - When you only go to the picture it is clear what it is all about. But if you go to the photo with several, keep that in mind. Match the clothes and the color of the clothing properly. Neutral is the starting point. Provide calm colors and also avoid busy patterns or large logos on your clothes. But do not forget to also take each other into account. Everyone should feel comfortable in the chosen clothes for a magical look at the photo.
6 - Oh yeah…. And then you have shoes. That, of course, completes the whole. But here, of course, money is the same as with clothes. Provide calm colors and with several people make sure that it corresponds somewhat.
7 - What the clothing trends are at the moment. Keep in mind that a photo is forever. Do you want to show the zeitgeist or do you want to be timeless? It is just something that you can better take into account in advance than regret afterward. But then you can always make new pictures :-)
So, these are my seven tips. I know that it is very global and different for everyone. But with most of these tips, you come a long way and you will be better prepared for the photo shoot. Also, take these tips when you have an intake interview with me for a photo shoot. You already know what you want and then we can watch together how we will realize this during the actual photo shoot.
I hope you found useful tips and if you have any questions you can always contact me.
Until the next photo shoot!
